What is the CrossFit Games?

Simply put, this is the main event or tournament that is usually hosted with the aim of determining who the fittest athlete in the whole world is. The event has two main categories namely: the individual’s category and the team’s category. The individual’s category is further divided into the male and female category.

What Is the History of CrossFit Games?

CrossFit was founded in 2007. Since then it has been organized annually with the intention to determine who the fittest athlete is in the world.

What Does CrossFit Games Promote?

CrossFit Games can be categorized as physical exercise. It also competitive fitness sports. It incorporates a number of fitness elements including high-intensity interval training, plyometrics, powerlifting, weightlifting, gymnastics, calisthenics, strongman, and girevoy sport among many others.

The CrossFit Games 2019 Schedule begins on the 10th of January when registrations open for every interested participant. The participants will register for the “CrossFit Open” which is the main event that marks the beginning of a new CrossFit Games Season.

CrossFit Open

CrossFit Open is an online qualification program. It allows all the interested parties to participate in the workouts given and submit their scores within a given duration/ deadline. In CrossFit, The scores submitted either through video or by calling on a CrossFit Affiliate to validate the results.
There is more than a single workout on the CrossFit Open schedule. For 2019 here are the workout schedule and their cut off timeline.


CrossFit Sanctioned Events

Apart from the Open we have the Sanctioned Events. These are 16 events that will take place in multiple countries around the world.

However, in 2019, there could be a twist. Word has it that in case a team wants to join the Games they have to win at least one Sanctioned event. Every sanctioned event will have an opportunity to send one man, woman, and team to the main Games.

The CrossFit Lowlands Throwdown – May 2019(Netherlands)
Downunder CrossFit Championship – May 2019 (Australia)
Reykjavik CrossFit Championship – May 2019 (Iceland)
Down Under CrossFit Championship – May 2019 (Wollongong, Australia)

NOTE: Athletes who receive finally receive a CrossFit Games invitation after winning a Sanctioned Event doesn’t necessarily have to compete in the CrossFit Open in order to make it into the Games.
